Zhejiang International Studies University (ZISU) is a public, provincial-level undergraduate institution situated in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, under the administration of the Zhejiang Provincial Government Its origins date back to the establishment of the Zhejiang Education Institute in 1955, and it began offering full-time undergraduate programs in 1994. In 2010, it was officially renamed ZISU by the Ministry of Education

The university emphasizes foreign language and cultural studies, offering 35–36 undergraduate programs across 13 departments or schools, spanning disciplines such as languages, literature, economics, management, law, education, science, and the arts . It provides instruction in 13–14 different foreign languages, with key programs—like English, Arabic, translation, and tourism management—recognized as national or provincial first-class undergraduate specialties

ZISU’s campuses are located in scenic areas near West Lake, covering approximately 555 mu (about 37 hectares), with modern facilities that include advanced language labs, simultaneous interpretation studios, and multimedia-equipped classrooms The university is deeply committed to internationalization, maintaining partnerships with over 150 institutions in more than 50 countries. It facilitates diverse exchange programs, double-degree opportunities, scholarship initiatives, and has established Confucius Institutes overseas

ZISU maintains a strong teaching and research faculty body, with 333 to 545 full-time teachers, including professors, associate professors, and PhD holders. Many faculty members have received national or provincial honors, and the university is also a key base for teacher training and humanistic international exchange in Zhejiang In recent years, the institution ranked around #282 in Chinese university rankings and #12 among domestic universities specializing in language and culture
